The Voice Sanctuary

The Voice Sanctuary is a place of refuge for your body & voice, where you can hang out safely, embrace the mystery and intuit your soul's song.

We will be back with more dates for the Voice Sanctuary Soon

The Voice Sanctuary is for those who are curious to experiment with their vocal sounds in a safe, guided environment where the aim is not to make great music (although this can happen) but to discover the resonance of the body and express honest sounds through which a sense of wholeness and connection can emerge. The best way to find out if its for you is to come along and try it out (your first session is free), in the meantime these comments from previous participants will give you a flavour of what it’s like….

Jackie, professional storyteller, musician and celebrant

“What a joy to gather together to explore voice and improvisation with Sarah Jane. She has so much love for this work, and held us all safely and gently as we explored our voices and began to develop and play. This voice work is simple yet profound; it can result in new insights. For me on this occasion, it was a great pleasure.”

Danielle, Stroud

"Thanks so much for the great workshop today. I think you held the space amazingly. You really heard and validated each person’s comments, and welcomed all thoughts and feelings into the space. I thought the activities were powerful and I loved the slow pace, my nervous system did too.   I loved how you introduced things, your energy is gentle, authentic, knowledgeable and welcoming”

These small group sessions invite you into deep listening, bringing awareness to the sensations that arise when you express your voice, supporting your natural ability to release and return to a state of balance.

Sasha, Dance Movement Psychotherapist, Oxford

““I was very new to voice work, and this session was so surprising. I have been struggling to connect to my dance recently and to find a creative outlet that I feel connected to and that brings release, nourishment and connection. The session with Sarah Jane and the wonderful circle of women released my over stressed mind and renewed my soul.”

Serena, Massage Therapist, Oxford

" Thank you for sharing such a beautiful gift with me and other people. Today I feel great, relaxed, grateful and with a little bit of longing of wanting to sing more which is very surprising. It's been a very interesting experience...I felt very grateful for my body also for being able to make those sounds”

The approach is trauma informed and particularly suited to those who would love to sing but have some shyness or feel afraid to express freely in front of others. More confident singers are also very welcome and may find they access unexpected, deeper or more tender places to sing from. You can choose your level of participation for each practice.

Things we might do together include gentle movement, breath exploration, somatic enquiry, self holding, co-regulating touch, vocalising a range of sounds, listening to soothing sounds of others voices, melodic mantra and Collaborative Vocal Improvisation. Everything is an invitation, you are encouraged to explore what feels comfortable, interesting and enjoyable for you.

Kate, Bristol

“It was just what I needed. It has inspired me to go back to a gentle voice practice in the mornings which I feel is right for me as this time. I really appreciated the gentleness of the approach and it seemed like the missing step for me between other vocal improv work i've done and what my body (with historic trauma) can manage. It felt like it was pitched exactly right for my system”..”

Sophia, Yoga Practitioner & Staff member at Wild Honey Organic Health Food Store, Oxford

"As someone who has not had much experience with sounding and voice, I found that Sarah Jane created such a beautiful, safe and comfortable space for me to connect to and experiment with my voice without fear or judgement. I left feeling nourished and embodied and so grateful for the experience”.”
